The assistant
Talk to your brain in Jackdaw: type or speak, attach files, and keep or start chats.
Open it
- Click Assistant at the foot of the menu, or press Cmd+I (Ctrl+I on Windows and Linux).
- The … menu in the assistant’s header picks the agent and the shape: Side (a column), Window (movable) or Full.
- Each agent keeps its own conversation. Your web chat and your Telegram chat with the same agent are one conversation. To set up Telegram, see Connect Telegram.
Ask
- Type a message, or press Record voice note and speak. Your words are transcribed into the box for you to check.
- Add context if it helps:
- Attach images or documents (or paste them with Cmd+V or Ctrl+V). The assistant reads them and files them into your brain.
- Pick content to attach points it at a file, page or note you already have.
- Send.
Ask about content, not file names: “what did the supplier quote for the roof?” Ask it to act: “make that a task for Friday”, “save this as a page”.
Replies can carry headings, tables, diagrams, images and short audio clips.
Work on what is open
When a page or an app is open, the assistant works on that item. On a page it hands the job to the Pages specialist; on an app, to Appsmith. Their edits land in the draft, so you review before you commit. See Pages and Apps.
Start a new chat
- Open … and choose New chat. On Telegram, send
/new. - The old chat is saved, with a short summary, under Previous chats.
A previous chat opens read-only. Continue from this starts a new chat that picks up from its summary. Everything the assistant wrote to your brain (notes, tasks, journal) stays.
Approvals
Tools you marked Requires operator confirm do not run straight away. They wait in Pending until you approve them. See Skills and tools.
Watch it think
Whether you see live steps while it works is set in Settings > Profile under Live thinking & streaming. See Profile and appearance.
If it fails
- It says it cannot do something: the agent lacks the tool group. Grant it on Settings > Agents. See Agents and AI workers.
- You want to see why it answered that way: open Traces for the turn.
